Crispin D’Olot


Artist Studio Project se sienta con CRISPÍN D’OLOT –Juglar – Trovador de Leon, España para hablar de su colaboración en el Festival de El Quijote.

Como parte de el festival de 7 meses Crispín estará viajando a lo largo de Carolina del Norte visitando las instituciones educativas con su show – “La Razón De La Sin Razón”, Esta experiencia cultural ofrecerá historias, recaídas, canciones y poemas, un espacio dedicado al caballero de la Triste Figura.
Hace quince años que Crispín d’Olot, trovador a la vieja usanza, viene representado por teatros, escuelas y plazas de España, Europa y América Latina. Esta aventura teatral, poética y musical, nació como respuesta del último juglar literario -que encontró en la literatura clásica una herramienta de cultura para reconstruir imaginarios que permiten el rescate de nuestra esencia- a una sociedad cada vez más marcada por la violencia y la incapacidad para reunirse en torno a puntos comunes de identidad y valores.En la actualidad Crispín d’Olot es considerado un referente cultural obligado, llegando incluso a cosechar grandes éxitos en programas de televisión de máxima audiencia por su poder de convocatoria y la calidad artística y nivel de producción.
Crispín d’Olot es un trovador de renombre internacional que ha recitado romances españoles medievales y ha llevado esa historia de la península y la cultura a la vida en todo el mundo.
Déjese llevar a ese momento lleno de princesas encantadas, castillos encantados, caballeros, juglares y trovadores. Déjese conquistar por el tiempo que se forjó el caballero más loco y más famoso que los siglos han conocido, Don Quijote de la Mancha, hijo de Don Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Ayúdenos a celebrar 400 años de estos increíbles dos libros que muchos han afirmado ser la mejor novela jamás escrita.


KidzNotes

Artist Studio Project sits down with Kim Demery – Director of Programming at Kidznotes to learn a little more about their amazing organization inspired by El Sistema, Founded in Venezuela in 1975 by Dr. Jose Antonio Abreu. Kidznotes was founded by Lucia Powe, Kathie Morrison and Katie Wyatt, in 2010 with 60 students at 3 Title-1 Schools in Durham. Now in its fifth year, the program serves more than 300 students in five Durham elementary schools and Raleigh. Kidznotes joins a diverse list of organizations, artists, and educational institutions collaborating to celebrate the 400 years of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra’s literary Masterpiece “El Quijote”.


 

Profesor Titular – DR. Jonathan Wade –  Meredith College

Artist Studio Project se sienta con el Profesor Titular – DR. Jonathan Wade de la Universidad de Meredith College en Raleigh, NC, para hablar de su colaboración en el Festival de El Quijote. 

Profesor Titular de español en el Departamento de Lenguas y Literaturas Extranjeras en Meredith College. Después de obtener tanto su licenciatura (2003) y MA (2005) en Español de la Universidad Brigham Young, pasó a la Universidad de Vanderbilt, completando su doctorado en 2009. Su investigación principal se centra en la polinización cruzada cultural que se produjo entre España y Portugal durante el decimosexto y siglos XVII.
Le gusta regalar ejemplares del Quijote a amigos, familiares y otros lectores ociosos que manifiesten interés.


DR. Miguel Rojas Sotelo

Artist Studio Project sits with the Director of the NC Latin American Film Festival – DR. Miguel Rojas Sotelo of Duke University in Durham, NC, to discuss their collaboration in the El Quixote Festival.

Miguel Rojas-Sotelo is an art historian, visual artist, media activist, scholar, and curator. Holds a Doctorate (PhD) in Co-Host, Latino/American Radio Magazine Visual Studies, Contemporary Art, and Cultural Theory (U. Pittsburgh, 2009), M.A in Modern and Contemporary Art (U. Pittsburgh, 2004), MFA on Visual Arts (U. de los Andes, 1995), and BA in Art  (sub-major in History and Philosophy).
Miguel worked as visual arts director of the Ministry of Culture of Colombia (1995-2001), building cultural policy for the visual arts in his country, and independently as artist, curator, and critic ever since. His areas of interest are: decolonial aestheSis, subaltern studies, the global south, contemporary visual circuits, culture and power, Latin American visual production, cultural politics and subjectivity, performance and film studies. Currently works and teaches at the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Duke University where is Special Events Coordinator and the Director of the NC Latin American Film and New Media Festival.


PATRICK OLIVER JONES – ACTOR – CFRT

Artist Studio Project sits with Patrick Oliver Jones, New York Actor to discuss his role as Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra and Don Quixote in The Cape Fear Regional Theatre’s Presentation of Man Of La Mancha. Man Of La Mancha forms part of The El Quixote Festival. A 400 year celebration of Don Quixote De La Mancha.

Man Of La Mancha kicks off both the 2015 – 2016 season at Cape Fear Regional Theatre in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and The El Quixote Festival.

About Man Of La Mancha:
The Tony Award winning musical tells the story of “The Mad Knight”, Don Quixote, as a play within a play, performed by Miguel de Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition. Featuring the hit song “The Impossible Dream”, Man of La Mancha is one of the most enduring works of musical theatre, having been revived four times on Broadway since its debut in 1965. Music by Mitch Leigh and Lyrics by Joe Darion and Book by Dale Wasserman.


Paco Peña – Flamencura

Artist Studio Project se sienta con Maestro del Flamenco, Guitarrista y Compositor: Paco Peña para hablar de su Espectáculo “Flamencura” el 10 de noviembre en El Teatro de Carolina en Durham NC. Presentado por The Carolina Theatre – Series ’26

Esta presentación forma parte del Festival del Quijote. Un festival de siete meses que celebra los 400 años de El Quijote.

ED STEPHENSON & THE PACO BAND

Artist Studio Project sits down with a few of the members of The Ed Stephenson & the Paco Band to learn more about their music and their participation in the El Quixote Festival.
Members Ed Stephenson, Ryan Johnson and Cat Albanese talk with us and give us a bit of insight of themselves and the instruments they play.
This performance is part of the El Quixote Festival, celebrating The 400 Year Anniversary Of El Quijote.
Music of the Carolinas concerts are presented in partnership by the North Carolina Museum of History and PineCone, and they are  made possible thanks to the support of Williams Mullen and the NC Museum of History Associates.


DR. Joan Francisco Valdes Santos

Artist Studio Project se sienta con Poeta, Escritor: Dr. Joan Francisco Valdés Santos para hablar de su colaboración en el Festival de El Quijote.

Aunque su educación formal es en los deportes / ocio, la ciencia y la psicología, es también un prolífico escritor, compositor y periodista con una amplia gama de conocimientos y experiencias en la música cubana, el arte, la literatura y la cultura. Nació en La Habana, Cuba y en la actualidad vive en Durham, Carolina del Norte con su esposa. En 2005 recibió su doctorado del Manual de Instituto Superior de Cultura Física Fajardo en Cuba, donde fue uno de los 46 miembros del Consejo de Ciencia del INDER, Instituto Nacional de Deportes, Educación Física y Recreación. Como subdirector de ISLA, Instituto Latinoamericano de Ajedrez fue también el director de investigación de postgrado.
Dr. Valdés se une a una lista diversa de organizaciones, artistas, e instituciones educativas que colaboran para celebrar los 400 años de la obra maestra literaria de Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra “El Quijote”. Dr. Valdés también es el autor que escribió el poema oficial del festival titulado
Quijotesco y Cervantino“.


Associate Professor – DR. Jonathan Wade 

Artist Studio Project sits with Professor – DR. Jonathan Wade of Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, to discuss their collaboration in the El Quixote Festival.

Jonathan Wade is an Associate Professor of Spanish Languages in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Meredith College. After obtaining both his BA (2003) and MA (2005) in Spanish from BYU, he went on to Vanderbilt University, completing his PhD in 2009. His primary research focuses on the cultural cross-pollination that occurred between Spain and Portugal during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Artist Studio Project se sienta con el Director de El Festival de Cine Latino Americano de Carolina del Norte – DR. Miguel Rojas Sotelo de la Universidad de Duke en Durham, NC, para hablar de su colaboración en el Festival de El Quijote y porque hace un festival conmemorando El Quijote es importante.

TOM QUAINTANCE – ARTISTIC DIRECTOR – CFRT

Artist Studio Project sits with Tom Quaintance, Artistic Director at Cape Fear Regional Theatre in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to discuss Man Of La Mancha and their collaboration in the El Quixote Festival.

Tom Quaintance is Artistic Director of Cape Fear Regional Theatre, where his directing credits include Spamalot, Sweeney Todd, Pride & Prejudice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Jesus Christ Superstar, Othello and Hairspray.

As the Director of Cape Fear Regional this is his first time directing Man Of La Mancha and it kicks off both the 2015 – 2016 season at Cape Fear Regional Theatre and El Quixote Festival.


DR. Roberto González Echevarría

DR. Roberto González Echevarría, Sterling Professor of Hispanic and Comparative Literature at Yale University, sits down with Rafael A. Osuba founder of the El Quixote Festival to talk about his Open Keynote Address –  titled “Reading Don Quixote Today” as one of the events kicking off the seven-month long El Quixote Festival.


Inma Rivero y Yolanda Osuna – Paco Peña

Artist Studio Project se sienta con integrantes del grupo de flamenco – Paco Peña “Flamencura” Cantante, Inma Rivero Y Bailadora, Yolanda Osuna para hablar sobre su participación en el grupo, La gira actual y su experiencia dirigiendo Un Taller de Flamenco con estudiantes de la Escuela de las Artes en Durham NC.

El Evento Musical – se dio a cabo el 10 de noviembre en El Teatro de Carolina en Durham NC. Presentado por The Carolina Theatre – Series ’26

El Taller se dio a cabo en la Escuela de Durham School of The Arts en Durham NC.
