Mother Earth has many names and since the beginning of time humans have had a connection with her.

It is important to take time to realize her importance in our lives and how we must do our part in preserving all her many gifts.

It is not the title or name we use to address her that is important; She is the eternal lady and the mother of all life, and those who seek her need only walk outside to see, feel and experience her greatness.  She is great and very giving yet fragile at the same time.

Just as all life comes from Mother Earth, all life inevitably returns to her as well. No matter what path you walk in this life, let us all take care of Mother Earth as she takes care of us.

La Madre Tierra tiene muchos nombres y desde el principio de los tiempos el ser humano ha tenido una conexión con ella.

Es importante tomarnos el tiempo para darnos cuenta de su importancia en nuestras vidas y de cómo debemos hacer nuestra parte para preservar todos sus dones.

​No es el título o el nombre que usamos para dirigirnos a ella lo que es importante; Ella es la dama eterna y la madre de toda la vida, y quienes la buscan sólo necesitan caminar afuera para ver, sentir y experimentar su grandeza. Ella es grandiosa y muy generosa pero frágil al mismo tiempo.

Celebrating children
International Children’s Day, which is not the same as Universal Children’s Day, is celebrated annually on June 1. Although widely celebrated, many countries do not recognize June 1 as Children’s Day.

The International Day for the Protection of Children is also celebrated on June 1 and has helped elevate June 1 as the internationally recognized day to celebrate children. The International Day for the Protection of Children was universally established in 1954 to protect the rights of children, end child labor and ensure access to education.

In the United States, Children’s Day is typically celebrated on the second Sunday in June. The tradition dates back to 1856 when the Reverend Dr. Charles Leonard, pastor of the Universalist Church of the Redeemer in Chelsea, Massachusetts, held a special service focused on children.

Over the years, several denominations have declared or recommended an annual celebration for children, but no government action has been taken. Past presidents have periodically proclaimed National Children’s Day or National Children’s Day, but no official annual celebration of National Children’s Day has been established in the United States.

Universal Children’s Day was created to change the way society views and treats children and improve their well-being. First established by a United Nations resolution in 1954, Universal Children’s Day is a day to defend and defend the rights of children. Children’s rights are not special rights or different rights. They are fundamental human rights. A child is a human being who has the right to be treated as such and should be celebrated as such.

DRAGONCILLO PUPPET TROUPE

The Dragoncillo Puppet Troupe is a theater company dedicated to imaginative, bilingual storytelling that educates while it entertains.
Our unique, “ready-made” approach to puppetry empowers local volunteers and provides them with the training and resources to give high quality performances for their own communities.

DRAGONCILLO is a puppetry troupe comprised of university scholars specializing in golden age theatre: Jason Yancey (Grand Valley State University); Esther Fernandez (Rice University); Jonathan Wade (Meredith College); and Jared White (Hillsdale College). The group debuted in April 2018 with a shadow puppet adaptation of the Juan Rana figure from golden age entremeses into an original production titled, “the fabulous Johnny frog,” offering performances in el Paso, Texas, and Grand Rapids, Michigan. The company is dedicated to imaginative storytelling that educates while it entertains.

JEGHETTO

Tarish Pipkins a.k.a. Jeghetto, was born in a small steel mill town called Clairton, PA located south of Pittsburgh, PA. He is a self taught artist and has been creating art from a very young age. As a teenager, he moved to the East Side of Pittsburgh and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School. In the late 90’s Tarish joined the BridgeSpotters Collective and became known for his Live paintings and Poetry. He was also a Barber for over 20 years. He moved to North Carolina in 2005 where he launched his career in Puppetry. There, he fine tuned his skills by doing street performances with his puppets. In 2008 he started working with Paperhand Puppet Intervention. He has built puppets and performed in several Paperhand productions. Most recently, Jeghetto had the pleasure to work with national recording artist, Missy Elliott on her music video, WTF ( Where They From) controlling the Pharell puppet and doing some puppet building. He also worked on the Amazon Echo commercial featuring Missy Elliott and Alec Baldwin as puppets. Tarish is a former teacher at Just Right Academy, a private alternative school for children with special needs. Tarish is married and a proud father of five children. Jeghetto’s passion is promoting Oneness through the magic of Puppetry.

Reyna Productions

Monica Reyna Saavedra was born and raised in Lima – Peru and has a passion for acting and storytelling. She started acting at an early age in theater and school plays throughout her teenage years. As a young girl her father would take her to children’s plays and story time where she would listen to fables and fairy tales that captured her attention and triggered her imagination. She wanted to do the same thing for others and would gather her friends and retell the stories she had heard and memorized and it was not long before she was creating her own stories to share. When she moved to North Carolina now having children of her own, she wanted to share and expose her children to the wonder of escaping to another place and time through the magic of storytelling. So in 2009 she began working and performing in Charlotte, bringing bilingual storytelling and theater to the community. Over the years she has collaborated with many organizations and educational institutions such as the University of North Carolina Charlotte, Queens University of Charlotte, the Mint Museum, The El Quixote Festival and many others. In 2011 she started the Rocotita Show, an interactive show in English and Spanish that incorporates games, dance and music. Monica is a versatile artist that focuses on promoting bilingualism by introducing the audience to the Spanish language through storytelling and theatrical performances. In 2013 she was recognized by Art Si for her work and support to the Latino Arts. Wanting to fill the growing need in the community in 2017 she started Reyna Productions where she serves as its artistic director with the focus on developing young talent through storytelling and acting. Her most recent projects include plays such as: The Vagina Monologues (Spanish), Las Musas (The Muses), Los Zapaticos de Rosa (The Pink Shoes), Meñique (Little Finger), Pastorela Despacito a Belén (Pastorale Despacito to Bethlehem), and Serenata a Belén (Serenade to Bethlehem). Through Reyna Productions she has started to cultivate and create opportunities for the development of young actors and storytellers. One can often find her telling stories at festivals, conferences, schools, and libraries engaging with children and their personal chauffeurs too. Her most recent project – Classic Fables and Short Stories, connects children and their parents with popular universal favorites all while incorporating the Spanish language into the performance.
A minimalist, she brings all she needs in a small suitcase that is filled with simple props, relying on the power of the imagination and the story itself to transport the audience to whatever place, space or time she decides to take them.

Karen Lynch Harley & Phillip Harley Karen Lynch Harley is a Native American Artist. She is a member of the Haliwa-Saponi Indian Tribe of North Carolina. Her work is inspired by her love of life and culture and usually tells a story. She believes art is therapy for the body and soul and enjoys sharing her gift with others to help them find their inner gifts and spirit. She pulls from her own roots to create art in a variety of art mediums. Karen’s work has been received nationally and internationally.Her work has been featured in numerous newspaper and magazine articles regarding her art and devotion to teaching others how to release their creativity through art.Karen has recently completed several outdoor murals in Halifax County, North Carolina for the Ed Fitts Charitable Foundation; the Z Smith Reynolds Foundation and the University of Maryland, College Park Campus.Karen has also illustrated two story books. One for the Piscataway Indians of Maryland and another one she created herself for children.Author and illustrator: Washakie – The Little Indian Boy (ASP BOOKS) 2024 Phillip Harley is a self-taught wood carver who takes found wood and creates beautiful carvings on walking sticks, bowls, spoons, totem poles, benches and other items. His works are done with both hand tools and chain saws. Phillip has worked on several commission pieces in North Carolina, Florida and Maryland and creates family heirlooms from wood given to him by customers. His work reflects what he sees in life and his love of wood.

Kim and Wayne Pitts –
Vista Tranquila Publishers

Wayne and Kim Pitts were both born and raised in Western North Carolina in the Appalachian Mountains and this is where they still call home. They met met in 1989 while studying abroad at the University of the Americas (UDLA) in Cholula, México. One year later, at the age of 20, they were married and shortly afterward they graduated from Western Carolina University, joined the Peace Corps and moved to Senegal. After their return, their two sons were born and they joined right in the adventure! They made friends, tried lots of exotic foods, and seen some amazing sights. As former University professors, they love learning and teaching, There’s a lot to their story and they look forward to sharing it. Vista Tranquila Publishers is their latest adventure and they hope you’ll join them along the way.

Wayne y Kim Pitts nacieron y crecieron en el oeste de Carolina del Norte, en las Montañas Apalaches, y aquí es donde todavía llaman hogar. Isidra Sabio

Sabio is a self-taught painter, writer, and illustrator who has made her life mission to use her artwork to create awareness about the history and life experience of Garifuna and afro-descendant communities in the Americas. She has written and illustrated several children’s books and has done solo exhibitions in New York and Washington D.C.  As a black woman herself, Isidra is very interested in capturing and highlighting the inner and outer strength of black women and girls and their vital role in the preservation of culture and their environment.

Isidra also holds a bachelor’s in engineering and Master of Science degree; she currently works in public health research studiesas Research Project Managerat a leading Medical School in North Carolina.

Sabio es una pintora, escritora e ilustradora autodidacta que ha hecho de su vida la misión de utilizar su obra de arte para crear conciencia sobre la historia y la experiencia de vida de las comunidades garífunas y afrodescendientes en las Américas. Ha escrito e ilustrado varios libros para niños y ha realizado exposiciones individuales en Nueva York y Washington D.C. Como mujer negra, Isidra está muy interesada en capturar y resaltar la fuerza interior y exterior de las mujeres y niñas negras y su papel vital en la preservación. de la cultura y su entorno.

Isidra también tiene una licenciatura en ingeniería y una maestría en ciencias; Actualmente trabaja en estudios de investigación en salud pública como gerente de proyectos de investigación en una importante facultad de medicina de Carolina del Norte.

Rafael A. Osuba 

Osuba is a visual artist, cultural producer and storyteller. He loves to share memories and stories from his childhood and his beloved Puerto Rico.
He is the founder and director of El Quixote Festival- Festival Del Quijote (2015), an annual, seven month long collaborative festival across the state of North Carolina that commemorates the Spanish writer and literary giant Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra and the 400 years of “Don Quixote”, two books that changed his life.

He has worked to find creative ways, and places for the voices of Latinos and people of color to be heard, be seen and have a presence in his community.

He lives in the city of Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife of over 30 years Michelle.

Ambiorix Santos is a painter raised and trained in The Dominican Republic. His work is created from the experiences and objects that surround him on a daily basis. Santos says of his art “it is rooted in and evolves from my sense of wonder, and the desire to add simple yet profound dimension to the world around me. I look to bring life to the ineffable by developing new spaces, structures, and visual possibilities”.

Santos seeks to integrate form and light in his paintings in order to establish a dialogue between the physical and the possible. His work provides closer reflection on the marks left by the consequences of his actions. He looks to spark life into these inert materials, and discover their secrets, by reviving the collective memory they contain.

Ambiorix Santos es un pintor criado y formado en República Dominicana. Su obra se crea a partir de las experiencias y objetos que le rodean en el día a día. Santos dice de su arte que “está enraizado y evoluciona a partir de mi sentido de asombro y el deseo de agregar una dimensión simple pero profunda al mundo que me rodea. Busco darle vida a lo inefable desarrollando nuevos espacios, estructuras y posibilidades visuales”.

Santos busca integrar forma y luz en sus pinturas para establecer un diálogo entre lo físico y lo posible. Su obra ofrece una reflexión más cercana sobre las marcas dejadas por las consecuencias de sus actos. Busca dar vida a estos materiales inertes y descubrir sus secretos, reviviendo la memoria colectiva que contienen.
