The excitement continues at the NC International Food Festival just outside!
Donna L. Washington is an award-winning internationally known master storyteller, artist-educator, and author who has been performing for audiences of all ages for over thirty-five years. She is renowned for her storytelling for both children & adults from poignant & funny fables about the human condition to racy relationships stories to spine-tingling tales of terror. She has been featured at numerous festivals, schools, libraries, theaters and other venues around the world including Canada, Peru, Argentina & Hong Kong. During the pandemic, she has presented over two hundred shows & workshops virtually online. In 2020, she co-founded the non-profit organization Artists Standing Strong Together with Master Storyteller Sheila Arnold for which they won a 2021 Oracle Award.
Donna’s eleven storytelling CDs have garnered thirty national awards. She has authored numerous articles about storytelling and education including her very popular blog Language, Literacy & Storytelling. She is also the author of five children’s books: Li’l Rabbit’s Kwanzaa, A Pride of African Tales, The Story of Kwanzaa, A Big Spooky House, and award-winning Boo Stew. Peachtree Press is scheduled to publish her next picture book, Prak Fills The House, in September 2023. She travels all over the world performing and giving workshops. She lives with her husband and cat in Durham, NC.

Milbre Burch is a GRAMMY-nominated spoken word recording artist and an internationally known storyteller. She has been featured at the National Storytelling Festival eight times and has performed and taught across the US, and in Europe and Asia. A teaching artist since 1978, she co-coordinated the virtual Remembrance and Renewal Storytelling Festival as part of the Process Series at UNC in 2021.
Milbre Burch es una artista de grabación de palabras habladas nominada al GRAMMY y una narradora conocida internacionalmente. Ha aparecido ocho veces en el National Storytelling Festival y ha actuado y enseñado en los EE. UU., Europa y Asia. Artista docente desde 1978, co-coordinó el Festival virtual de Cuentos de Memoria y Renovación (Remembrance and Renewal Storytelling Festival) como parte de la Serie Proceso (Process Series) en la Universidad de Carolina del Norte en 2021.
Ramya S. Kapadia is a Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, instructor and a Carnatic vocalist (South Indian classical dance & music forms). Ramya has toured all over the United States & abroad to present solo & group works. She regularly provides vocal accompaniment to dancers around the world and composes music for their productions.
Ramya has Master’s degrees in Medical Physics and Neuroscience and pursues the arts full time now. She runs the Natyarpana School of Dance & Music in Durham, NC, through which she shares the rich traditions of Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam across the USA. She is also the Associate Artistic and Outreach Director of Maryland-based Prakriti Dance. She shuttles between Knoxville, TN where her family resides and Durham, NC, her main place of work.
She received the Ella Pratt Emerging Artist Award from the Durham Arts Council in 2010, the Choreography Fellowship from the North Carolina Dance Alliance in 2016 and an Artist Support Grant from the NC Arts Council in 2020. She is on the Advisory Committee of the “Dance at the Van Dyke” series at Greensboro Dance Project and a Teaching Artist with the Durham and United Arts Councils and Arts Access in North Carolina. Through these affiliations, she is pursuing research to integrate the principles of her 2000-year old form with the STEAM curriculum in schools, emphasizing accessibility to children with special needs.
Ramya believes that art can and should tell stories that move audiences to becoming better and more compassionate human beings. The collaborators in her works are artists, scientists, literary scholars and philosophers who all share her vision of creating a better world through art. She is grateful to her many mentors for providing her with rich and varied experiences in the arts.

Criss Cross Mangosauce is an edutainment venture founded in 2007 to foster children’s love for languages, cultures and arts. Criss Cross Mangosauce offers bilingual (English/Spanish) programs, products and resources for libraries, schools and families interested in raising bilingual and globally minded children: Bilingual CDs; educational performances; and workshops for educators, librarians and families.
The concept was created by Irania Patterson (Children’s author, Storyteller and Educator) and Ana Lucia Divins (Singer-Songwriter and Multicultural Marketer). These two Latina moms, performing artists and educators are passionate about fostering children’s love for languages, cultures and arts. Inspired by their own experiences raising bilingual children and working with bilingual audiences for many years, they share with others the richness of the Hispanic heritage and Spanish language using their combined artistic talents.
Today, the Criss Cross Mangosauce team is comprised by a group of six talented bicultural and bilingual musicians. This group of artists/educators introduce Spanish language and Latin culture in a fun and educational way using a combination of original music, stories and drama.
Criss Cross Mangosauce also believes in the power of the performing arts to provide authentic linguistic and inter-cultural experiences that eventually will foster a more inclusive society and will open minds to other cultures and languages.
Criss Cross Mangosauce es una empresa de entretenimiento educativo fundada en 2007 para fomentar el amor de los niños por los idiomas, las culturas y las artes. Criss Cross Mangosauce ofrece programas, productos y recursos bilingües (inglés/español) para bibliotecas, escuelas y familias interesadas en criar niños bilingües y con mentalidad global: CD bilingües; representaciones educativas; y talleres para educadores, bibliotecarios y familias.

Tarish Pipkins a.k.a. Jeghetto, was born in a small steel mill town called Clairton, PA located south of Pittsburgh, PA. He is a self taught artist and has been creating art from a very young age. As a teenager, he moved to the East Side of Pittsburgh and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School. In the late 90’s Tarish joined the BridgeSpotters Collective and became known for his Live paintings and Poetry. He was also a Barber for over 20 years. He moved to North Carolina in 2005 where he launched his career in Puppetry. There, he fine tuned his skills by doing street performances with his puppets. In 2008 he started working with Paperhand Puppet Intervention. He has built puppets and performed in several Paperhand productions. Most recently, Jeghetto had the pleasure to work with national recording artist, Missy Elliott on her music video, WTF ( Where They From) controlling the Pharell puppet and doing some puppet building. He also worked on the Amazon Echo commercial featuring Missy Elliott and Alec Baldwin as puppets. Tarish is a former teacher at Just Right Academy, a private alternative school for children with special needs. Tarish is married and a proud father of five children. Jeghetto’s passion is promoting Oneness through the magic of Puppetry.
Tarish Pipkins, también conocido como Jeghetto, nació en un pequeño pueblo siderúrgico llamado Clairton, PA, ubicado al sur de Pittsburgh, PA.
